  • THE ROBERT BURNS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, PRESTWICK

Members views please on the campaign asking for the renaming of Scotland's "Ayrshire" airport.

The Facebook campaign which began in late 2009 asks for the owners and shareholders to change the name from Glasgow Prestwick to:
THE ROBERT BURNS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, PRESTWICK.

The airport sits less than 6 miles north of where Robert Burns was born in 1759 and where the new £21million Robert Burns Birthplace Museum has been built.

The Ayrshire airport has been known as Pure dead Brilliant GLASGOW Prestwick Airport since 2005.

    Glasgow Prestwick Airport, Ayrshire, Scotland?
Would it not make sense to rename it the Robert Burns International Airport, Prestwick, Ayrshire, Scotland, especially with the recent opening of the £21million Robert Burns Birthplace Museum nearby?

Fresh calls to change the name of Prestwick Airport have received the backing of MSP's.
A campaign to have the name changed to the Robert Burns International Airport has been backed by thousands of people online.
Elaine Murray, MSP for Dumfrieshire, believes the name change would have a positive effect on the whole of the South West... http://www.westsoundradio.com/news/f...ename-airport/

It's been a while since I visitited Electric Scotland so : Hello.

It will soon be time again for folks asking why the Ayrshire airport is not named
The Robert Burns International Airport, Prestwick.
Every year, on the build up to Burns Night, someone comes up with the novel idea.

Why not get behind one big push?

It's been a while folks. The rename Glasgow Prestwick to ROBERT BURNS INTERNATIONAL page has over 7,000 "likes" but we were told last year that the Scottish Government refused to go with the Robert Burns World Federation's plea for the name change.
That doesn't mean we can't ask them to ADD his name to Prestwick Airport. It was easy enough to attach and remove "Pure dead Brilliant" to the airport, why not Robert Burns International?
