  • Links - A new service

We now have our Links section available which can be found in the menu bar. You can also go directly to the section at http://www.electricscotland.org/links.

When you add your link to the system you get to give it a title, and you can then type in a description. There is a good text editor to let you layout your description to look as good as possible. By default we will take a snapshot of your web site and use that as a default graphic to go with your entry. You also have the option to overwrite this and upload a small graphic to take its place.

The new features for members only is that you can subscribe to your link which means that if any of our members add a message to your link you'll get an email alert to tell you of this new message. This gives you the opportunity to read it and reply to it.

Members of the service can also add your link to their favourites and they also get to rank your entry.

There are three Groups within the service...

    Scottish Links
    Members Links
    Resources

To get into the Scottish Links group you simply need to be a Scottish business or organisation or if not in Scotland you must be a mainly Scottish business. So for non Scottish based businesses you might be a St Andrews Society, Scottish Clan Society or a shop selling mainly Scottish goods. As we manually verify every link we will normally visit your index page or your contact page for evidence you are a Scottish company. If we fail to verify this then your entry will be rejected.

Where your business fits into more than one category then we're happy for you to add additonal links. Under "Scottish Councils" we would ask that wherever else you add your link that you also add it to the relevant Council area. Where people visit your council area for business or travel they will be able to see what else might be in that area that they could visit while there.

Members Link are simply for Members of our social networking site and in there you get a simplw choice of personal or business. And so if you work for a company you can add your company web site if you wish.

Resources is a general area which we want to reflect good and useful web sites that our members would like to recommend to each other. In the description we would look for there to be decent information as to why the link is being recommended.

There is a full search facility available so members can browse or search through the categories.

Anyone may visit our social networking site as a guest and read any of the messages there as well as browsing our "Links" section. They simply can't leave messages unless they are a member. Also only Members can add links to the Members Links or the Resources. Guests may enter links to the Scottish Links sections but won't get the extra facilities that Members get.

You should note that all links added need to be approved before they will show on the site.

We hope you'll make good use of this new facility which takes over from our old ScotSearch.org web site.
