    SDA Vision Statement

    Share Our Vision

    * A Fresh Approach. The Scottish Democratic Alliance (SDA) is a new political party dedicated to securing Independence for Scotland. At present we operate as a Think Tank working to develop practical policies for Scotland's people and communities which will provide real benefits and also enable us all to have more say in our own futures. We give all Scots a chance to contribute to Scotland's future - we want YOUR input please.

    * Too Much Government. Most people accept that Scotland is vastly over-governed - Brussels, Westminster, Holyrood, local authorities all pouring out laws and regulations at our expense, much of it with little relevance to us Scots. There is too much centralised power when what we need is local decision-making which empowers the people to take decisions and responsibility for themselves.

    * Scotland's Youth. The thoughts and opinions of young people need to be heard and understood, as they are the future of Scotland, and therefore entitled to have a voice in decisions which will shape their lives.

    * Focus on the Economy. Our economy is in need of a shake-up - 61% of our GDP is swallowed up by the state leaving roughly one third of the workforce in productive work paying for all the rest. Scotland needs a lean, business aware government, supportive investment banks and a lot less red tape.

    * Taxation. We pay too much tax. The current system is inefficient, wasteful and penalises individuals and businesses. The Scottish government needs to be able to raise all of the revenues they spend. We need an efficient modern system such as Flat Tax and Land Value Rent, which will encourage economic growth, yet still leave more money in our pockets.

    * Energy Costs. Domestic costs are rising, transport and our industries need to be competitive. We require secure sources of safe and reliable energy, delivered at a price which does not penalise our competitiveness.

    * Trading with Europe. The SDA seek withdrawal from the UK government and once separated we would seek membership of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) - we would not join the EU. This would leave us with £billions extra in our pockets as currently Scotland subsidises both the UK and the EU.

    * Rural and Fishing Industries. Our island, rural and fishing communities need revitalisation after years of interference by the EU. We must improve our rural transportation infrastructure and network our communities with improved digital connectivity.

    * Public Services. Our public services, such as education, health, police, etc are not providing the quality of service we are paying for. Although our teachers, medical staff and police are the best trained in the world they cannot deliver quality services because of too much red tape and top down management. It is time to de-centralise, cut the red tape and put the decision-making back to our local front-line professionals

    * Training and Skills. For a country which gave the Scottish Enlightenment to the world, the quality of our education system has dropped well below par. It is time to re-establish the excellence of our education system to provide the graduates and apprentices needed now and for the future.

    * Constitution of Scotland. The SDA propose a modern codified Constitution based on the principles of the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath, incorporating the best aspects of human rights and outlining the structure of our desired society.

The "Pat-on-the Back" in the Marketing paragraph was a good advertisement for the forum.

    Re: SDA Vision Statement

Here is what the SDA believe their policies will deliver...

The Future Governance of Scotland -- An SDA Perspective

Were we able to put all this into practice then this is what it could mean for us..

You'd save some 40 pence or more on a litre of fuel.
You'd no longer have to pay a car license fee.
A family of four would pay £30 less per week on food.
You'd pay no tax on the first £12,000 of your earnings.
You'd no longer need to pay for a TV license fee.
Commercial vehicles would save the £ thousands they currently have to pay for a road licence.
The surplus tax revenues currently kept back by the UK Treasury would all be spent in Scotland.
The £845 millions we currently pay into the EU would all be spent in Scotland.
The £1500 millions lost to the EU under the Common Fisheries Policy would be retained in Scotland.
We would be able to rebuild our manufacturing and farming industries.
You wouldn't be paying for individuals who don't want to work.

Then of course we'd also have...

The choice between lower taxes for individuals and companies or better quality of services.
    A lot less red tape.
More say in how our country is run.
More responsibility for our own lives.
Our own currency, The "Merk" - 100 pence, initially linked to the £ sterling.
Control of our own banking and financial services.
Full Fiscal Control to grow our own economy and create more jobs and wealth.
Security and Defence Forces to protect us and provide thousands more jobs in Scotland.
The funds to rebuild our railways, roads, schools and other vital infrastructure.
The funds to provide better quality public services.
A lot less immigrants taking our jobs and our welfare handouts.
More entrepreneurs starting their own business.
More Medium and Large companies locating in Scotland.
Scottish research being converted into jobs in our own country.
More jobs for graduates, technicians and trades-persons here in Scotland.

This is how Microsoft ended up dominating the Personal Computer world.
    Smoke and Mirrors.
As a Scot who has lived in many places in the World, we need to stop all this nonsense and get on with making the Union work better.
There is no mention of how jobs will be created, how we will stop the "culture" of the "state" will look after me, and how we will solve the situation of a disproportionate number of people being Civil Servants.
    Dream on...

I agree Sandy. One thing leapt out at me, a reference to "flat" tax. That's how the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The UK is no where near as overgoverned as we are in Oz with local, state AND national government.
