    Mairi & Steaphanaidh Chaimbeul

Màiri and Steaphanaidh Chaimbeul www.mairisteaphanaidh.yolasite.com are native Gaelic speakers from the Isle of Skye, Scotland, whose love of Scottish traditional music is deep-rooted, but their sound is unique and draws on jazz, world music, and the classical training that they have received at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh. The sisters grew up immersed in the Gaelic language and in music, singing and playing a range of instruments including clarsachs (Scottish harp), saxophone, fiddle, piano, cello, and clarinet. They have been fortunate to receive inspirational tuition and support from many amazing musicians and teachers, such as Catriona Mckay and Richard Ingham.

Finalists in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards 2010, they are building on this success, having just been nominated as finalists for the second year running. Màiri and Steaphanaidh are also both members of the folk-fusion band Kilairum, winners of a Danny Kyle award at Celtic Connections 2010.

Màiri was finalist in both the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician 2010, and the BBC Radio Scotland Young Jazz Musician 2010, and was winner of the International Harp Competition at the Pan-Celtic Festival in Dingle 2010.
