  • The Father of St. Kilda

This is an account of Roderick Campbell growing up in the Western isles of Scotland then at 16 sailing for Hudson Bay to join the company and then his record of the next 20 years.

It's a book I was just reading for pleasure and at the end I decided it would make a good tale to put up on the site. In the old day this would have gone up in the Canada section of Electric Scotland but figured it should find a home on Electric Canadian.

You can read this book at http://www.electriccanadian.com/makers/father/index.htm

Perhaps a bit of license in this fellow' side trip to the Little Big Horn, but his descriptions of life and events in the Saskatchewan territories ring mostly true, and the descriptions of daily routines are rich. A good read, thanks Alastair.

Glad you enjoyed it Rick... I don't read many books right through online these days but enjoyed this one for sure.
