    Potato Soup and Common Sense

He summed up all the very lofty studies in all his areas of work
with the comment, “Actually it all boils down to using common sense.”

My house wife intellect made me have to listen very closely to this brilliant man. How good it was to have him close with the thought of using common sense.

In that spirit of things I offer these tips on making a great Potato Soup: Apologies to other ladies my age who probably have a better recipe.

Common Sense Potato Soup With Dumplings

After cooking potatoes in a good amount of water add one large finely minced onion, a half stick of butter and use a quart of half and half rather than milk. Add one can of green beans.

Make a sticky dough by mixing 1 cup of flour with 1 heaping teaspoon of baking powder and enough milk to make the dough. Take a teaspoon and dip into that dough and use another teaspoon to slide it off into the potato soup. These dumplings will cook in a short time.

You can serve this with a toasted French bread to make it crunchy. I use a stove top grill my Dad made for me in the foundry for this so that I can add butter and chopped garlic to the toasted slices.
