  • Apologies & Corrections on Chocolate Cake

I received this note calling my attention to my errors on the Chocolate Cake
    Thanks so much, B.

    Hey Donna,
You know I love your stories and this one was no exception!

I'd never copied down the cake recipe from the Hershey's box before, so you motivated me to get down my box and see if the recipe had changed any. I feel so bad to have to tell you this, but there are some errors in the cake as well as the frosting recipes. I seriously considered to just not mention it, but if somebody uses the recipes you gave, there would be trouble! I knew if it was me in this situation, I'd want to know. Please, God, I hope I'm not offending you. You know I'd never intentionally try to, right?

I even went to the Hershey's website to make double sure about this.
Below is what I copied from there, except I edited the list of "Variations" to a much-much shorter version than the one at that website.

The biggest mistake in the cake was not listing the 1 cup of boiling water, a small mistake was not listing the salt. In the frosting, I know you meant cups of this or that, but you wrote it as teaspoons of this or that.

You must be under a lot of stress. I can't even imagine what you are going through. My earnest prayers for you are to give you strength, endurance and above all, patience. The best advise I found in a book, when dealing with Mother, was, when she no longer knew who I was, I created a new identity between us. I became the "nice lady who gave her manicures," and she did remember me (pretty much) as "that" person. It was better than nothing. Much-MUCH better.

    Much love,
    B.
