  • Scottish National BardBQ July 21st 2014

"Rabbie Burns"; the "Bard of Ayrshire"; "Scotland's favourite son"; the Ayrshire Ploughman Poet"; and in Scotland, simply "The Bard".

Some of Robert Burns' acquaintances held the 1st Burns' supper on July 21st, the anniversary of his death, in Ayrshire, Scotland. The date was later changed to January 25th, which marks his birthday. Burns' Suppers are now held by people and organizations worldwide, particularly in Australia, Canada, the United States and even England.

On the run-up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland it would make sense to have communities showing their sister nations some guid aul' Scottish hospitality in the open air while at the same time celebrate the life of Rabbie on the anniversary of his licht gawn oot.
Hopefully, the Commonwealth Baton (torch) will be able to licht many of the BardBq's along its route when it arrives back in Scotland on the 21st of June. From that date until the 21st, two days before the Games begin, we can have thousands of BardBQ's with millions of smiling families ready for action.

Let's turn this into an annual event around the world, but for now let's make 2014 the year of the commonweal'.
