Hey, all...Just got this printed off. Ranald again got the jump on me! OK here's my answers...#1 is "5 pounds overweight", #6 is "Right between the eyes", #7 is "bow tie". #11 is "ends to ends". Haven't got any more right now. Thanks.

All I can add to the good work so far is #12 - Balanced Meal, but I'd also consider #7 - Crossbow.

Joan your #5 and #6 are the same as Doug's answers but he has different one for #7 & #11, but they are possible alternates.

            Cheers,

            Hugh

Rick I'll give you #12 it's so close and #7 is right on. Maybe you can think of a little more for #12.

              Cheers,

              Hugh

                Re: Enigma Machine #54

                I'll throw in #5 - Repeat After Me and #11 - Making Ends Meet while I'm re-pondering #12 and struggling with #2 and #10.

Ha! #10 finally clicked: "I Before E Except After C". Very clever Doug!

Ha! I've been going around saying those words over & over...& just now got the idea that the ABOVE answer was IT! Too Late!

Bingo Rick. Glad you got it. Now get to work on #2, it's a common expression.

                        Cheers,

                          Answers to Enigma Machine #54:

                          1. five pounds overweight

                          2. an outside chance

                          3. microscope

                          4. love at first sight

                          5. Repeat after me . . .

                          6. right between the eyes

                          7. a crossbow

                          8. a house divided; housebroken; open house

                          9. sleeping on the job

                          10. I before E, except after C [hmmmm . . . neither, weird]

                          11. making ends meet

                          12. a well‑balanced meal

Pretty good week, you got 11 out of 12 so that is excellent.

                          Cheers,

                          Hugh

                            Hi Hugh

Regarding #10, this was a general rule taught in schools here.

                            http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/wo...except-after-c

Still weird, or does the above clear the question ?

Not sure how anyone can learn the language, unless taught from the cradle !!

That is certainly a more complete explanation Ranald and rules to cover exceptions too.

                              Cheers,
