  • Kaimanawa Horse muster 2014

    Another muster of the Kaimana Wild Horses took place here about a month ago.
    As these horses are unique to New Zealand, it may be of interest to see something of them in their wild state, as well as their remote and unforgiving home in the Kaimanawa Ranges where they have roamed free for the last 140 years.

    If you're wondering where the Scottish connection is, it's Sir Donald McLean, whose contribution to the Kaimanawa bloodlines is mentioned in the above link. He was born on the island of Tiree in the Hebrides and emigrated to N.Z. in 1840 - he later became Minister of Native affairs.
