          Re: Enigma Machine #76

Thanks, Hugh...this link worked. #2 is "The River of No Return, #4 is "The Last Hurrah!"
That's all I have for now, as Ranald beat me to the other one #5!!

After working on some others...Here's my answers:
#3 is "A House Divided", #6 is "Circle of the Seasons", # 8 is "The Road to Hell", & #12 is "The Cat Who Went Up the Creek".

Hugh...On perusing #2, I think it's "The Planet of No Return".
Will occasionally look at the others now.

              Thanks, Joan

                Re: Enigma Machine #76

Hi to all... Proceeding according to the "treat these as ordinary enigmas" theory, here's what I have so far (who knows, I may fluke a book title or two): #1 "Upfront", #2 "Point of no return", (you didn't mention if Joan's and Ranald's #5 was correct but I thought the same) #7 "Starting over", #8 "L'Inferno" (first book of 'The Divine Comedy'), #9 "The King's back", #10 on familiar ground now in the 19th century "Le Rouge et le Noir" (this one I have read) & #11 "The four affirmatives". - Cheers all, John.

Great progress! We are still looking for #6, #8, #9 & #11. Yes, you were all right on #5 and close on the others.

                  Cheers,

                  Hugh

Some of these will be difficult to solve without knowing the book, but there are remarkably close answers already given. Of the remaining 4 I would guess that #8 would be easiest.

                    Cheers,

                    Hugh

                      Re: Enigma Machine #76

Hi Hugh, with that clue I would say #8 'Pathway to Hell, although I have never heard anything about a book of that name.

Using Google search, I did find a reference, hence this reply !!

Close Ranald, but not the answer from Doug. What is the other main feature of the illustration?

                        Cheers,

                        Hugh

                          Re: Enigma Machine #76

Hi, all...I've been doing some serious thinking! I believe that #1 is "All Quiet on the Western Front", & #8 is "The Gate of Hell" (or Dante's Inferno).

                          Take that!! ha.

Joan we already had #1 (up front) and #8 is close but not Dante's inferno. We are still working on #6, #8, #9 & #11.

                              Cheers,
