    Electric Scotland News

Enjoyed my trip to Toronto over the weekend and early part of this week. The weather was great and I got to visit the Aviator restaurant which is Alex & Verities new place where they also have a very nice 3 bedroom apartment upstairs which is to be given to Alex's mother. They have wee cards on the tables which are meant to be used as talking points for their clients to discuss and so help to break the ice if you are on a first date. You can view a video introduction to this newsletter at:

Scottish News from this weeks newspapers
Note that this is a selection and more can be read in our ScotNews feed on our index page where we list news from the past 1-2 weeks. I am partly doing this to build an archive of modern news from and about Scotland as all the newsletters are archived and also indexed on Google and other search engines. I might also add that in newspapers such as the Guardian, Scotsman, Courier, etc. you will find many comments which can be just as interesting as the news story itself and of course you can also add your own comments if you wish.

    The Story

Celebration of Gaelic music and culture at north Skye fčis
In excess of 50 children took part in this year’s Fčis Thrňndairnis, the annual celebration of traditional Gŕidhlig music and culture which took place in north Skye last week.

Attending this year were several younger children who were new to this Fčis, as well as children who have been participants for a few years; all were equally welcomed by the organisers and tutors.

Tuition was offered in Gŕidhlig drama, Gŕidhlig song, fiddle, accordion, keyboards/piano, clŕrsach, guitar, chanter and piping, whistle, drumming, arts and crafts and shinty. Children from age 7 upwards took part.

Most of those taking part were from the north Skye schools but there were children visiting grandparents attending too. The main focus of the Fčis was to foster the area’s rich Gŕidhlig language and culture.

The traditional “tutors’ cčilidh” was held on the Tuesday evening with the children showcasing their skills at the final concert on Friday afternoon.

Bun-sgoil Stafainn, Staffin Community Hall and Columba 1400 were the venues for the various Fčis activities.

This year’s tutors were Eoghan MacDonald, Graham MacKenzie, Allan MacLeod, Ian Ruari Finlayson, Andrew MacPherson, Murdo Cameron, Sileas Sinclair, Lilidh Campbell and Katie MacKenzie.

Fčis Thrňndairnis is well supported each year by an active local committee and by its parent body, Fčisean nan Gŕidheal.

And that's it for this week and hope you all have a great weekend.

    Alastair
