How does it work that when I come in here I see Australian adverts? I'm assuming that others around the world see ads applicable to their part of the world?

It's is called geo targeting I believe. Your domain IP address is recognized by the system and thus the country you are calling from. The system then serves you up relevant adverts for your country. Likewise when I moved around the web I get adverts relevant to Canada.
