Sorley MacLean

Sorley MacLean was born at Osgaig on Raasay on October 26th 1911 the second son of a family of seven brothers and sisters, to Malcolm and Christina MacLean.His family had long-standing connections with both Skye and Raasay. Descended from storytellers and pipers, it is said that Sorley on hearing a song once would remember the words, though he didn't have a great singing voice himself. His father's family originally were from North Uist but had been on Raasay for seven generations.
