    NATIONAL TRUST FOR SCOTLAND CALL TO ARMS UPDATE - 28 June 2013

    Bannockburn Live: A feast of food, music and history

    Bannockburn Live welcomes Scotland’s Clan Societies, providing an opportunity for visitors to trace their Scottish roots and offering societies an opportunity to represent their Clans, meet friends old and new and to be a part of history.

    Medieval warriors, families, clans and history fans will be standing shoulder to shoulder this time next year at the National Trust for Scotland’s Bannockburn Live event. Taking place over Saturday 28, Sunday 29 and Monday 30 June 2014, the event will commemorate the 700thanniversary of the battle of Bannockburn, and mark the opening of the new state-of-the-art visitor centre at the heritage site.

    A year ahead of Bannockburn Live, the Trust has unveiled initial programme information, and tickets are now on sale (28 June 2013). Ticketing includes an exclusive offering for Clan Societies, with the chance to purchase pitches within tented structures for the 3-days as part of a bespoke “Clan Village”.

    We understand the urgency of Clans being able to book a pitch soon so that groups can arrange travel and accommodation. The Trust has already received interest from many Clan Societies and event organisers will be responding to each enquiry individually with an application questionnaire. If you have not already emailed us to register your interest in taking part, please answer the Call to Arms onwww.battleofbannockburn.com by 15th July 2013.

    Please note the importance of registering as soon as possible as spaces are limited. We will send you an application form to complete and return by 1st August 2013 to be considered for a Clan pitch. All applications will be assessed and confirmations will be sent to the selected Clans by16th August 2013.
    As a contribution towards infrastructure, a fee of £300.00 plus vat is payable to the event for a Clan Societies pitch. This fee will cover attendance at all three days of Bannockburn Live (please note Clans must be able to participate on all three days from 10am – 6pm) and as part of this fee, will be supplied with:
    · An individual space measuring 3m x 3m within a tented structure;
    · 2 x 6ft trestle tables;
    · 2 x folding chairs;
    · 4 x Bannockburn Live passes (worth £80) for your working personnel which will allow access to the arena to be able to enjoy the performances on offer;
    · A dedicated Clan Liaison to manage the Clan Village and act as your point of contact at the event;
    · Power if required (must be specified in advance); and
    · An opportunity to sell Clan merchandise (offering subject to approval by event organisers).
    Please note, Clans will be required to be on site in advance to set up their pitches (logistical arrangements will be advised for selected Clans).

    More on Bannockburn Live

    Bannockburn Live will conjure the events and people of the past out from the history books and into real life, at the site which has long had its connections with the historic battle. Alongside the largest ever re-enactment of the battle of Bannockburn, an array of themed villages will showcase the sights, sounds and atmosphere of medieval and modern Scotland.

    700 years on from the battle that changed the course of history, 45,000 people will have a unique opportunity come to Bannockburn and feast their senses on the spoils of war and the fruits of peace. They will have the chance to experience medieval life like never before – to see, taste, smell, hear and discover in historical encampments, and watch two brave Kings lead their armies to battle in full armour.

    The National Trust for Scotland has selected Scotland’s leading events and festival creation company, Unique Events, to produce Bannockburn Live. A specially created festival arena will feature a programme packed with music, Scottish food and drink, crafts, literature and outdoor activities all set in the memorial park where people have commemorated the Battle of Bannockburn for centuries.

    There will be three opportunities to watch the re-enactment each day so that all visitors will have the chance to see and enjoy all of the performance stages and theatre tents. The bespoke arena will include: a main contemporary music stage; Scottish literature and traditional music in “Storyville”; tastings and food demonstrations featuring quality Scottish produce and real ales in the “Land of Food and Drink”; hands-on bushcraft, wildlife and outdoor activities in a “Natural World Village”; a children’s programme; the chance to participate in sports like archery and highland games; and much more.

    Tickets for the event are now on sale and costs per day are as follows: Adult - £20; Concession/Child - £12.50; Family - 2 adults and 2 children (under 14 years old) - £55 (plus booking fees). There is also the option to purchase “The King’s Ticket” for £75 per day, a bespoke ticket which will enhance the visitor experience and features the following: exclusive entry to the Battle of Bannockburn visitor centre; designated seating at the re-enactments; a souvenir gift bag and a buffet Scottish Afternoon Tea.
    As a signature event of the Year of Homecoming Scotland 2014 programme, the scope of Bannockburn Live has been extended as a result of generous funding from the Scottish Government, Homecoming Scotland 2014 and Creative Scotland.

    Re: Bannockburn 2014 event

    A wee bird has told me, there will be an exhibit in the visitor's centre by the Strathclyde University proving DNA genealogy with a paper trail. A current big wig has been tested and it will pull the Albany's all together. I am very excited about this!

    As for Balgonie Castle, we are the seat of the Sibbald's, Lundie's, Leslie and Balfour. Any members of these families or clans are more than welcome to pop in!
