Electric Scotland News
My Canadian Experience
Continued to add videos and other content to my September edition. I am finding this is taking up a lot of my time as I do need to view the videos I highlight and of course many don't fit my idea of fair reporting so I don't select them but it all takes time.
I also note that as Canada is a dual language country there is a fair bit of reporting in the French language which I don't understand. I do fast forward through that but again it still takes time.
--------
Got an email in from my web hosting company which said I was down to only 5 Gbytes of storage left so have agreed to add another 50 Gbytes for an additional $25.00 a month.
Scottish News from this weeks newspapers
I am partly doing this to build an archive of modern news from and about Scotland and world news stories that can affect Scotland and as all the newsletters are archived and also indexed on search engines it becomes a good resource. I might also add that in a number of newspapers you will find many comments which can be just as interesting as the news story itself and of course you can also add your own comments if you wish which I do myself from time to time.
Here is what caught my eye this week...
Farage: a leader for the whole UK?
Nigel Farage has an instinctive feel for the mood of English voters and his language resonates with them. When he speaks about Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, however, he sounds less assured. Can the Clacton MP get serious about bringing his message across the whole UK?

How Scotland became a wealthy nation
A common explanation for Scotland’s past glories is that, thanks to the establishment of a system of tax-funded schools, Scots were unusually literate. But this did not instantly translate into results. Rather, in the 18th and 19th centuries, Scotland developed a financial system that unleashed ambitious individuals.

Visiting St Kilda is well worth the effort
I returned with two companions for a second attempt this August (2025). As ever, the drive up north from Edinburgh via the M9/A9 to the Dalwhinnie turnoff to head over to Spean Bridge was unremarkable but through glorious scenery.

Marine Le Pen is calling the shots now
After the collapse of François Bayrou’s government yesterday evening, Emmanuel Macron faces a divided parliament and no obvious way forward. Without a clear majority, each option Macron explores risks failure. Increasingly, it is Marine Le Pen, and the choices she makes, that will decide what happens next.

Global trade is winning against Trump
Since returning to the White House, Donald Trump has repeatedly introduced, reversed, and hiked tariffs, often to unprecedented levels, raising fears about the future of the global trading system. But the average effective tariff rate that the US has applied remains much lower than Trump's pronouncements would suggest.

This Winter Will Be Truly Insane
A fading El Niño transitioning toward a La Niña-like pattern, combined with a blocking pattern near Greenland and the Arctic, could set the stage for frequent storms, sharp temperature swings, and high-impact winter weather. The Central U.S. is expected to become a Winter Battle Zone, with heavy snow, ice, and even severe weather outbreaks possible as warm Gulf air clashes with Arctic cold. Meanwhile, the West and Deep South may trend milder and drier, but cold air intrusions could still reach unusually far south at times. This winter looks to bring something for everyone...
