  • Wonderful Geology Using Google Earth

When using Google Earth, I was looking at the area of Ardnamurchan peninsula, on the west coast of Scotland.

I was amazed to see the clarity of earthquake rings, and thought others might be interested. (Not sure if the search index is world wide, or only the country of residence ?)

In the search box type in 'Achnaha' (without the '), and click the magnifying glass.

There area few icons, which when clicked will give a photo.

If you have time, work your way north west and many more volcano remains can be seen, but not as clearly. Some show more than one eruption, with rings overlaping rings.

Let me know if it works world wide.

Hi Ranald, just tried it from Ontario and it works. There was a programme some time ago showing that the Cuillins etc are part of a really huge caldera. I cannot recall who presented it but there was a lot of surprising (to me) info about the volcanic and ice-age geology of the NorthWest.

Works for me. I truly enjoy the technology that allows us to see our world up close and personal.
