As some of you might know I've always tried to get pictures for the history books I put up on the site but fail miserably. I had a wee bit of a brain wave yesterday and thought I'd work through YouTube to see if I could find any videos for those places and lo and behold found quite a few.

And so if you go to our Travel index page at http://www.electricscotland.com/travel you'll find 5 very good videos of Scotland.

And then if you go to our Book page at http://www.electricscotland.com/history/books.htm at the top of that page you'll see the section "Places in Scotland". What I did was go down the list of 80 books and searched on YouTube for any videos and where I found a good video I inserted it into the index page for that book. I didn't find videos for all books but I did find ones for most of them.

I did have a phone call today with Ranald and he kind of moaned at me for not providing a neat list on one page for all the videos I found and confess I didn't think about that so sorry for that. Anyway... if you bring up each book you'll either see a video embeded on the page or a link to it.

I'll now make a habit of looking for a video when I put up new books. And should any of you come across a video of a place we have information up on feel free to let me know and I can add that to the page.

    Hope you enjoy them.

    Re: Videos

I also found some good videos for Dundee which you can see at http://www.electricscotland.com/history/dundee

While I was at it I thought I'd try and fine a really good video about countries where Scots settled. I did find one on New Zealand at http://www.electricscotland.com/newzealand/

However I have not found one for Australia or Canada as yet but of course both these countries are huge so that might be the reason.

          Scots and Australia

The is a fairly interesting site, there is a video at the link and a lot of informative threads on the menu.

Governor Lachlan Macquarie and Elizabeth Macquarie

Lachlan Macquarie is known as ‘The Father of Australia’. As Governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1822, he brought reform to the convict colony and began an ambitious building programme in Sydney.

Lachlan was born on 31 January 1762 on the small island of Ulva in the Inner Hebrides. Lachlan was related to the last chieftain of the clan Macquarie and to the chieftain of Lochbuy in Mull.
