  • Radio Scotland

I have added a new link under the EScotland menu to Radio Scotland. When clicked on a new window will come up and you can then listen to Radio Scotland live 24 hours a day if you wish.

Essentially Radio Scotland is produced by the BBC and is a program with a whole mix of programs. They have news, current affairs programs, music, talk shows, and lots of other programs throughout the day.

The reason I added it like this is that when the new window opens you can just minimize it and listen to the show as you interact with the community. Indeed even after you leave us you can continue listening to it as you browse the Web.

    Hope you enjoy this facility.

Any chance of installing a button on the forums headers so we can listen while we're perusing the current batch of repartee?

Steve is still working on our Jukebox program so we'll see how good that is when he gets it working.

I rather like Radio Scotland for the mix of programs you get. And radio is good as you can still work away on your computer while listening to it. You can't really do that while watching the videos.

            Re: Radio Scotland

I've also added the BBC World Service and BBC Radio 1.

Mind you it had occurred to me that we could create a new "Radio" menu under which we could add a few select radio stations from around the world. Like I could find a couple of programs from Australia, USA, Canada, etc. So if anyone can find a url to a good station that you'd like us to add please let me have your suggestions.

              Re: Radio Scotland

Hey... I worked it out and have managed to add a Radio drop down menu and what is more amazing it seems to work!!!

So... should you know of a Radio station that you'd like to listen to let us know and I'll add them in. I will need either the web site for them so I can find the "listen live" link or if you can provide that I'll try to add it in.

I listen to a Boston-based internet radio station, Highlander Radio on a recurring basis. Their url is: http://www.celticradio.net/php/servi...hp?type=about#

Problem with this one is that it doesn't see to have a live feed that I can use to connect to it. When you play it is there a link in your browser window that gives the url to the live feed?

OK.. I've figured it out but with this one you will need to click on the PLAY button to get it started whereas the others will start automatically.

Alastair, I used the link given by Tom, then selected 'Listen Now' - clicked the first one offered, and the music played - yes I am on my laptop, as the main machine has stopped working !

Also I did NOT 'Login' to the site.

You're right. The popup does not have a link. I wonder if we could contact them and see if they would allow a link to ES? I don't want to get above myself, so I thought I would see what you think.

                          Re: Radio Scotland

The Highlander Radio had a 'menu' that opened a drop down window. One of the options was 'Web Tools' which opened to additonal options, one of which was 'link to us'. The link page provided the following: "Here are the official Celtic Radio banners that can be used to link to our site. By placing one of these colorful banners on your personal web site, you will help spread the word about our Internet radio broadcast and our web site! Not only that, but your visitors will get to hear some of the best Celtic music this side of the Internet!"

I copied the live now playing code for an example. unfortunately since it is not a url it does not show the player in these forums.

                          <div align="center">
                          <a href="http://www.celticradio.net" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.celtichearts.com/php/images/np-img.png"
alt="Visit Highlander Radio for the best in Celtic music!" border="0" width="421" height="82"><br></a></div>

That's because we don't actually allow posting of html code in the messages as that's a security issue. I did manage to get a link which defaults to Highlander Radio but you do need to then hit the play button to get it started. The other stations don't require you to do that but isn't any major problem.

Alistair, is there any way that we could get Radio Canada International....a shortwave station? I kind of believe that it might be difficult, as the stations change with the seasons. Also something about it being short wave? Just asking...Many ta's, Joan
